If it's out of date, will it work?
In a nutshell, yes it will work. The failure rate might go up slightly as the cartridge gets older, but the vast majority of inks and toners we sell work perfectly, and we have been selling them for years.

Gordon Battye HP300 seem to have been the first of this series of cartridges for use in my HP Deskjet F4272 Printer which is now 16 years old and still gives excellent results! That is provided the cartridges are not faulty. I have had problems with them in the past - nearly always the colour one - and had to return them; this is no doubt because they are presumably old stock. They, the colour ones, have been increasingly hard to find, so as your cartridge was absolutely fine (I haven't started using the black one, but I am fully confident it will be OK when I do) I will almost certainly come back to you for new ones, so keep a few in stock! (That is the XL ones; the ordinary ones get used up too quickly.)
I have given the HP300XL cartridges just four stars because of the historical problems I've had with them.
